"Vegetable Stand, Gordes, Provence, France" by Karla Nolan

There is nothing like fresh produce.  Grown in the region, picked at the height of ripeness -- I enjoy going to the local farmers' markets during the warm months around here in northern Colorado.  Can you imagine my delight when we went to Provence, France, specifically Gordes this day, and saw this absolutely incredible vegetable stand just waiting for the picking and photographing?  Lavender, eggplants, different types of tomatoes, fennel, onions, and so on....yum, a meal in the making, both in the kitchen and in the art studio.  This painting honestly took at eternity to paint and I learned much by trial and error.  I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I did painting it!  Au revoir for now!

"Vegetable Stand, Gordes, Provence, France", 12"x16" palette knife and brush oil painting on gessoed panel, sold unframed,  $385, Paypal, s/h to be determined at time of sale, write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words by Pamela Blaies

12" x 16"
oil on canvas

Yesterday, I delivered some of my newest paintings to Steve Beasley, a professional art photographer in Dallas, to be photographed. There is no way to fully experience a piece of art unless you are viewing it right in front of you. But sometimes viewing artwork on a screen is the only option. Lighting, color preciseness and glare is always the biggest struggle when capturing my artwork on camera. Compare my best photo just below (which took forever to adjust on Photoshop) with the professional photo - need I say more.

I love to share my art and inspiration. Click HERE to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards.

"Cascading Rhythms" Palette knife oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Cascading Rhythms” ©2012 Niki Gulley
12” x 24” textured oil on canvas

Water pounds its way down the falls: cascading, rushing, charging into the riverbed -- flowing over rocks, swiftly moving forward. Untamed, the surge finds its way over, under, around the boulder-strewn river. Tumbling waters drive up mists above the falls, the rhythmic sounds create a soothing harmony below. Autumn’s low light casts long lines through the Aspen trees and glowing verge.

As the Shortest day of the Year approaches
I start to Dream in
SunFlowers.
Must have something to do with
only seeing the sun
for a few hours each day.
To me, the Sun is Mecca, something I desperately need
on a daily basis.
The sun gives my Energy and Life.
With the short days upon us,
I need the
Happiness and Cheer
these wonderful sunny flowers bring to me.
My own Personal Pick Me Up.

"Yellow Boat Waiting, Venice, Italy" by Karla Nolan

Walking down a flight of stairs and then directly outdoors from the bed and breakfast in Venice, there was a small canal -- not like the Grand Canal where the vaporettos run (like buses on water) -- just a small side street, if you will.  Here floated a small yellow boat, next to an old red brick building, under the red geraniums, waiting, waiting, waiting for its owner to take it further out onto the water -- maybe owner would be planning to pick up some groceries, get to work, meet up with friends?  I'll never know, but it was a Venetian sort of comfort to see this yellow vehicle ready for the day....

"Yellow Boat Waiting, Venice, Italy", 8"x6" miniature oil painting on canvas, $95 includes s/h in the continental U.S.

Paypal preferred, write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information -- as always, thank you for looking!

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series:  Abstract # 1027
22" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Palette Knife Painting
This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a dark piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang! Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting.
Have a great day! Kay

"Fire and Gold" Contemporary birch oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Fire and Gold" ©2012 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 36" x 48"

I love the first signs of fall – the crisp feel in the air, the crunching of leaves underfoot, the beautiful autumn colors, and being totally immersed in nature in the middle of a forest without a care in the world. In Fire and Gold I wanted to recreate that joyful feeling, choosing warm reds and yellows of autumn and using energetic strokes with my paint to heighten that mood. Building up first thin transparent layers and then thick textured layers of oil paint also add to a certain glow and magic in the final piece.

"Dusk on Lake Como" by Karla Nolan

Recently we traveled to Northern Italy and stayed at a B&B in Plesio, on Lake Como (Lago di Como in Italian, the most musical of languages).  I was quite surprised at the size of the lake, miles longer than I dreamed it would be.  My husband does all the research and makes the reservations for dwellings on our trips, I'm sort of like the little puppy dog, tagging along.  Mind you, I do make my special requests periodically, but I'm a perfectly happy camper with him lining things up.  Maybe I'm lazy.  Naaah!

Piero and Fiametta were the most wonderful, gracious hosts at their bed and breakfast.  This was our view from the front door of our one bedroom apartment.  It was breathtaking!  Piero also paints and Fiametta is an avid and enthusiastic cook.  We had the most splendid of times in Northern Italy, close to the Alps.  I hope I've done this one evening justice and conveyed to you the warmth of that special time.

Love Always Lily and Rose Container Garden is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, and was finished around 3 am. If it weren't for caffeine, I'm not quite sure I could have pulled this off! It's been a few days since I painted, and I just returned from one of the best Thanksgiving meals ever at Mom's house. My sisters and our family have so much to be thankful for, another year with Mom, being at the top of that list. Here's wishing you a wonderful holiday with lots of delicious things to eat and loved ones nearby!

"Heightened Awareness" textured aspen painting by Niki Gulley

Heightened Awareness III ©2012 Niki Gulley
48" x 36" • Textured mixed media on canvas

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. I chose vibrant, cheerful yellows contrasted against a violet blue sky filled with big, puffy clouds. And, by arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery are enhanced.

"Castiglione Falletto and the Full Moon" by Karla Nolan

Oh, this was just so much fun to paint -- and to research!  I'm a lucky lady, my husband and I went to Italy, to the Piedmont region where the nebbia grapes grow and Barolo wines originate.  We walked around this tiny little village for a bit -- it's really small, so we didn't walk at that long -- and came to the edge of the town by the stone wall.  There it was, the moon, in its full glory during the day.  The hills were distant, the next town over just shone, and I was just glad to be where I was at the moment, with my sweetheart and in Italy.  What more could a woman want?  (Other than homemade Italian food and drop dead wonderful wines, of course!)

"Castiglione Falletto and the Full Moon", 8"x6" palette knife and brush oil painting on canvas,  $95 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, e-mail me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more info....thanks for looking!

Transcending Luminosity by Niki Gulley now available in Canvas Prints

"Transcending Luminosity" ©2012 Niki Gulley

I decided it would be a fun challenge to create an extremely large painting this winter, and I wanted the final piece to be very uplifting, colorful and full of energy. Opting for warm colors and working with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives, I chose this water scene for its energetic flow and yet calming serenity at the same time, and positioned the water lilies and my paint strokes in a circular pattern to enliven that mood.

Now available in canvas prints.
I have added thick paint to the prints so they are loaded with texture.
They are UV coated and are stretched with the painting continuing around the edges on 3/4" stretcher bars so that they can be hung as is without a frame, or if you prefer a traditional look, they can be framed also.
20" x 30" for $295 • 28" x 40" for $495

A close up detail of the lily pads where thick paint has been added.

Print wrapped around 3/4" stretcher bars.

E-mail Niki@NikiGulley.com with questions or to order.
