ORIGINAL DAISY PAINTING by OLGA WAGNER

WOW...It has been a hot one...At 4 pm, my outdoor thermometer showed 107 deg. That is a bit too toasty for my liking...I decide to save these little daisies from the heat and bring them indoors...They seem much happier!

This is a small painting...6"x 8"..

Day 7 - Art Trek Paris with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

On the last day of our Plein-Air Painting and Photography Workshop in Paris, we gathered to share our work from the week, sample some French wine, and enjoy each other's camaraderie. It's always so much fun to see what the other painters and photographers have captured during the week, and how everyone has such a different perspective, even if the subject is the same.

The last two nights we dined at our b and b, which turned out to be two of the best meals of the trip, a hard feat to top the food we had in Paris! Appetizers consisted of an asparagus soup and a plate of scallops with browned butter, both so good we had them two nights in a row. The main courses were a cod dish with vegetables and a very good lamb dish with potatoes. I know that that isn’t up to my usual description, but that’s because the dishes on either side caused my mind to block out everything else. The desserts however, were a thing of beauty. Our first night was a pistachio waffle, with strawberries, homemade whipped cream, lime sorbet and orange compote. The second night, we were served chocolate 5 ways: a chocolate mousse with chocolate crumbles, a very dark chocolate Fondente ice cream, a light chocolate pudding, a chocolate cigar and a chocolate fudge brownie that would just bring you to your knees. It was one of those “When Harry Met Sally” moments!

Again, a perfect ending to a wonderful trip – leaving with satiated appetites, fond memories, new found friendships and a shared love for Paris!

New Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

"Bathing in Sunshine II" ©2012 Niki Gulley
30" x 48" textured painting on wrap around canvas

Bathing in Sunshine was inspired by our trip to Provence, France last summer. Our timing was perfect and the sunflowers and lavender were in full bloom. While we came across many fields of lavender, we had to search a little harder for sunflowers. Of course that meant sampling more of the local cuisine and wines for much needed fuel as we looked! (My husband likes to say we have to suffer four our art.) When we eventually came across these sunflowers, I knew immediately they would make a perfect painting. Their bright, smiling faces as big as dinner plates, the sun dappled path leading you deep into the golden field to the quaint stone farmhouse in the distance on a beautiful summer day made for the ideal subject. The resulting painting is so full of color and texture, and my hope is that when you gaze into it, this piece immediately lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home.

Daily Painting 1430 Wednesday's Winds Tropical Storm Debby

I took some photos of the outer band winds of tropical storm Debby on Tuesday but I painted this last night on Wednesday and one of my friends suggested the title.   I enjoyed the storm, we didn't have any damage and there was just enough wind to be interesting and not scary. The painting is 12 x 16 oil on masonite, lots of nice texture. This is a view of the Indian River, the opposite shore is covered by the approaching rain.  $500.

Relaxing and Reflecting by Pamela Blaies

Ahhh...Morning Coffee!
5" x 7"

The first anniversary of my blog, "A Palette Knife Painter's Diary," has now come and gone. Over the past year, I've found that blogging about my art has had a calming effect on my mind. Writing through my art journey helps me to avoid a phenomena I sometimes experience that I call "inspiration overload." My mind gets humming with so much inspiration that it becomes difficult for me to focus and create. Blogging forces me to organize my thoughts and follow the direction of my inspirations.

I've been relaxing on vacation for the past couple of weeks and have taken some time to read through past blogs. It is fun reflecting over the past year. Much has stayed the same, but so much has changed.

Here is a link to my first post ever, June 10, 2011: Ahhh....Morning Coffee!

I love to share my art and inspiration.  Click  HERE  to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards.

Paris Art Trek with Niki Gulley & Scott Williams

"Framed in Wisteria," Giverny, France • 7" x 5" oil painting by Niki Gulley

Day 7 - Art Trek Paris with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

The last few days of our Art Trek, we checked out of our hotel in Paris and headed to the peaceful countryside, near Giverny. The b&b we stayed at was straight out of a storybook, and the grounds themselves looked like an impressionist painting. We loved the setting so much, we stayed right there and painted outside our rooms the last day.

Our b&b outside of Giverny.

Bluebonnet Dance - Original oil painting Landscape by Karen Tarlton

12x16
Bluebonnet Dance
Oil
SOLD
Loved painting this one and the flowers are thick impasto!
The prettiest wildflower in Texas and fields of these are brilliantly colored and so inspiring! Painted extra thick with palette knife and oil paint, so the blooms come to life and seem to dance in the wind.
I love almost any flower that is blue,
but these grow wild and like the California poppies that I also love,
illuminate the hills with color!
Next week we move from Nevada to California.  Only a four hour drive without traffic.
Not too far but far enough to change the atmosphere, climate and environment dramatically.
I am excited because whenever we move I am inspired my new scenery and people.
Can't wait!

Hello,

This is my first blog at the Palette Knife Painters blog.
First, I want to thank July to accept my membership.
To introduce myself, I am John, born in 1961, Dutch and since 2008 living and working in Switzerland.
I started with painting like most of us, playing with pastels and watercolor paint.
Soon I moved to Oils and Acrylics because I liked that medium better.
After several years of experimenting, I found / build my own style, just by painting with the palette knife. My style is a mixture of impressionism and abstract. Most of my work is made on board, 18x24. Last but not least, I frame my work in black wood frames. These frames are all home made.

Over the last 3 weeks, I was very bussy with my own exhibition. It is my first "solo" exhibition.  I presented 35 paintings. All made with Palette knife and presenting Swiss mountains and landsapes. Today, Sunday the 24th, is the closing day. It was a good exhibition, I have sold several paintings. But more important, I could do a lot of PR what has been resulted in been ivited  to present some work during a judgement next week and to be part of a new painting group here in Switzerland. Also, I have been ask to participate a exhibition later this year.

Below, you will find one of my last paitings, made 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Now, I am also playing, experimenting to add Swiss Mountains, landscapes (painted with Knife in a impressionism style) in the middle of a very abstract, colorfull painting. I will post one of these when I have finished the first study of this.

Sunflower Painting by Judy Mackey

"Tall Black Vase"
20" x 16 ", Oil on Canvas
Received an email the other day from Ugallery an online gallery, where a few of my pieces are exhibited for sale,  that my painting "Tall Black Vase" had sold.  This is not a new painting, it's several years old.  There were times I could not part with this particular painting and would not list it as "available".  There are a lot of colors and textures in this that the photograph does not show.
But I'm also glad that it has sold and that there is someone in this world that likes my painting just as much as I do.

Bay Horse OIL PAINTING BY OLGA WAGNER

I found the reference photo for this painting on wetcanvas.com. It was one of those photos that I think was meant just for me. It spoke to my heart as soon as I saw it!... It reminds me so of my well-aged mare (Shelby)... She turned 28 this march and is living a happy retired life in Chapel Hill, NC. She has been part of my family for the last 21 years and truly deserves her happy "Sunset Years".

I took a slightly different approach with this painting. I used almost entirely 100% transparent colors on this beauty. On my palette, I had Indian Yellow, Trans.Orange, Trans. Red, Trans, Brown, Purple, Ultramarine  and Magenta (love the magenta!) - an I used ALL of them for this painting.. I did a lot of wiping with q-tips/paper towels and also used the 'colour shaper' tool to scrape the paint and get the highlight effect!  Love...Love...my Colour Shaper - it lets me create texture and definition in my paintings.

SUNSET YEARS
12" x 12"  -  Oil on Panel

Available 325
www.olgawagner.com

As, always...I start with the transparent orange to draw out the shape...I freehand it with a smaller brush  and plenty of medium to make  the paint flow.

Here I am starting to layout the colors. To build up the darks takes several layers of paint...Once all layers are done, the darkest darks will have a a bit of Trans. Brown, Purple, Magenta and Utramarine in it. The light areas are mainly indian yellow and trans. orange wiped off to make it brighter and also some areas have been scraped using the silicone tool.

This is a close-up of the face. You can see the scrape marks to give definition and texture. Also, you will see the only few areas that contain Opaque Paint. I used Ultramarine and white to add a small number of highlights...Only what you see here...

This is Shelby, when she was about 9 years of age.  She is now 28 - and I really need to get some more recent shots of her...I am a bad mother!!

This is the Colour Shaper tool that I use. You can get these through JerrysArtarama or any other art supplier. Here is the description from Jerry's website: "Colour Shapers are a unique tool made from silicone. The tip will not absorb any material, and so is great for applying, removing, scraping and moving color. Used alone or together with your existing tools, Colour Shapers will give you the opportunity to develop new and exciting effects. Made by Royal Sovereign in England"

If you have never tried one - you must! It will open doors to new possibilities...I promise...

I have some 4x4" gesso board that's been laying around for a while, and I finally decided to go ahead and give it a try for painting.  My usual surface is Centurion oil primed linen that I cut down and mount onto gator board.  It's been my preference for about 2 years (after I went on a spree buying and trying all different kinds of 'stuff' to get the best of what I'd need to kill as many birds with one stone as possible).  I really enjoyed the gesso board though I believe there was some absorption of the paint rather than what I'm used to with the linen.  The linen allows the paint to sit on top of the surface more.  Just the same, I think I'll do several more like this to see where it goes.

About workshops - so many have asked, and yes, I still do them and I am in the process of putting together the next few for this year.  Probably will aim for 2 more.  (Next year I will be teaching in GA, and hopefully in TX - thanks to the honor of being invited as a Signature Member of Contemporary Fine Art International).  I have also put feelers out for the central NJ area). I'll keep everyone posted.
Anyone who has asked, I've put you on the list of artists who are interested.

Finally, I believe I'm going to send out a short questionnaire soon to ascertain who is interested in studying what.  My endeavors & methods have changed a lot since I first began teaching a few years ago, and I'd hate to plan something that not everyone was expecting.
