This was inspired by a grueling 5-mile trail race my husband and I did as a fund-raiser for a local mountain bike club. It was called Battle at Big Creek but should have been called Battle at Big Rock, for all the rocks on the path. They might be fun on a mountain bike but my feet were sore for two days, even with trail shoes. But it was one of those glorious fall mornings that we wait all year for.
