"Petunia Pair" by Lynda Cookson

It's amazing how often a palette knife is picked up and used during the creation of mixed-tool paintings.

"Petunia Pair" - which is now being exhibited by The Gaslamp Gallery in Gorey, Co. Wexford, Ireland - is just such an example. The white background was spread with my favourite palette knife and bits and parts of the flowers were encouraged into place using that same palette knife ... and the other tools are a mystery! LOL Simply because I can't remember what I used!!

So often a painting is created while I'm in a sort of arty farty daze, instinctively using whatever medium or tool is necessary to create the final effect ... and, like a chef who doesn't use a recipe, it's hard to remember what was used, when someone asks at the end of the process!

You can access The Gaslamp Gallery website here: http://www.thegaslampgallery.com/
(You won't find my paintings up on the gallery at the moment as they are being held back for a Spring launching ... but they're there ... just ask!)

"Looking Out to Sea" by Lynda Cookson

This little painting is on show at Gallery 1608 in Bushmills, Northern Ireland.

We live 300 metres from a secluded bay on one of the peninsulas of Brittany's west-as-west-can-go coastline in France. On a balmy summer's day, during a walk at "our" bay, the inspiration for "Looking Out to Sea" was born. How I wish I was as slim and young as this young slip of a girl!! LOL

You can contact Gallery 1608 here : info@gallery1608.co.uk

"Going Crab Fishing" by Lynda Cookson

A painting inspired by a large and cheerful, bushy-haired fisherman we spotted at L'Abbe, on a peninsula just to the north of us on the west coast of Brittany in France. He was totally togged out and ready for a good long day crab and mussel fishing down at the beach.

This painting is available at Gallery 1608 in Bushmills (where the whisky comes from!) in Northern Ireland. Please see my website for contact details.

Rural Landscape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Country Road by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Original SOLD

Country Road, take me home.....

I still miss John Denver!   This rural landscape painting reminds me of his talent and the beautiful songs he left with us.

SOLD

I walk this road every morning when I am in the Smoky Mts. of Carolina.  The morning light and pastoral scenes are the perfect way to start my days there.

I painted with a palette knife, in a technique I refer to as "color weaving".  It allows for lots of texture in the work as well as very subtle changes in color. This is actually the same scene I painted in a previous post. Check out my Sept 7, 2014 post where I cropped the image and painted with a brush. A completely different composition! That's one of the things I love about art.

Thank you for reading my blog today.

Small Seascape with Sunrise Painting, Textured Palette Knife Art, 6x8" Oil Seascape SOLD

Today I am posting one of my favorite subjects, the beach!

SOLD
In my opinion, one of the best reasons to live in Florida, is to be able to grab a cup of coffee, and head for the beach to see the sunrise.

The beach is usually empty....maybe I will see a lone fisherman.  For the most part, only the birds are there to keep you company.  It is so serene and calming.  The perfect way to start your day.  I cannot think of a better way to spend an early morning hour.

I hope you have a wonderful day today!

ZACK - SOLD

I like to paint animals. One client came to me with three white standard poodles and commissioned portraits of each. As much of an animal lover as I am, I was not sure I could capture the personalities of three individual but identical dogs. My client was very happy and recognized each dog from his portrait. They are some of my favorite animal portraits.

Sky Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil Painting

An early morning beach photo shoot was the inspiration for this piece.  Thank you to Pat Garvey for sharing his image with me.

Purchase here
One of the biggest problems of selling art online, is representing your art with correct colors.  I didn't realize how big a problem this would be.

I tried for over an hour to edit this piece correctly, and was only partially successful.    Blues seem to be the colors that always give me problems in my photography.

The image above is washed out compared to the actual piece, which is sitting here next to me.  My problem was trying to get the blue gray on the lower right corner to read correctly...which is right on with my monitor.  But that means I have lost some beautiful warm rust and mauve hues in the dark cloud.

In this detail, the mauves and orangey rust shades are correct, but the blue on the right side is way too strong. Also the pale yellows are not warm enough.  What to do?  I have no answers.

Even if I am able to get the colors correct on my monitor, they may not be what you are seeing on your monitor.

So I do my best to represent what I see and offer my customers a full refund if they are unhappy.

I think most buyers understand this issue as fortunately, I have not had a painting returned in almost 10 years.

If any of you have a solution, I would love to hear it.

After writing this post, I tried again to edit my image, and finally have settled on this as the best representation of the painting.  It is better, but still does not reflect all the color variations.

Still missing mauve and purple colors in the dark cloud area and aqua tints behind the pelican.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

THOMPSON GAZELLE

This is one of my early efforts in oil. Our local zoo was opening an African exhibit. They contacted several local artists and assigned specific animals that were represented in the exhibit to each artist. They then created signs for the exhibition area, featuring the image and relaying information about the species represented. I was happy to donate to the zoo and still get a thrill when I visit and see "my sign".

"A Maine Moment" by Jane Boyd Impressionist Contemporary Painter

Palette knife painting,5 x 5 acrylic on paper.
Memories of many summers spent on Squirrel Island off Boothbay Harbor, ME

Floral Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting "Summer Wildflowers", 6x8" Oil on Panel

One of my guilty pleasures, when I am in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is my morning walk, which inspired this painting.

purchase here

You would have to live a summer or two in Florida, to understand how much I enjoy walking in mid 70's temps in the middle of summer.

detail

Of course, I also admire the songbirds and gorgeous, towering, hardwood trees.  It's not really a guilty pleasure, as it is hard work walking 4 miles when at least half of it is up the side of a mountain.

Here's hoping you have a wonderful day.

Abstract Painting, Four Seasons Series - Winter, Small Abstract Oil Paintings, 4x12x.75" Oil on Canvas, SOLD

This is the final installment of my Four Seasons Series, Winter.

With each painting, I tried to capture the feeling, of the season of the year, using only color.  It was a fun project to do.

Winter
This is not a good picture of "Winter" The actual painting has much more color variation and saturation.  Try as I might, I could not get a better image.

Spring

Tried to capture that "spring" feeling of new grass, flowering trees etc.

Summer

Summer...hot and salty....time for the beach!

Autumn

Autumn, falling leaves against bright blue skies.
Thanks for viewing my art today!
